Drinking tea to Champs-Élysées

Today is National Tea Day!!
It’s also the morning after one policeman was shot dead and two wounded at the Champs-Élysées; another tragedy in a world that continues to bleed and breed violence

Tonight we drink tea to Champs-Élysées
blue lights streaking, people shrieking amidst chaos
medics kneel down whilst others flee
this world of flashing lights, hailing madness

This morn we drink tea to Champs-Élysées
bleary eyes, tired minds coming to terms
to the numbness, to sad mundanity
of terrorists’ bullets; where freedom wears horns

Today we drink tea to Champs-Élysées
another slaughter pressed to mind’s back;
so much room for so much tragedy
as iron-red runs streets, death not lacking

Boil that kettle, brew that bitter tea
together, we’ll drink to Champs-Élysées
