Two Paintings and a Shard of Light

sonnet

Fragment in deep shadow, dark relief
stark white, straight black, itself a picture
splotches, splashes, streaks, joining motif
of thought-out colours, hues which capture
majestic scapes of views oceanic
views that trap the eye, halt the breath
calm the nerves, displace the panic.
Pictures that ease as brought into depths
of seascapes hailing, distant, distant shores
and airscapes soft with clouds and sunsets
bringing thoughts of far off days spent out of doors
or bringing sad thoughts of once held dreams, regret.
Musings all conjured by soft light and hues
that gently, beautifully capture such views
